What’s Happening For Shabbat: January 2023 Edition

🎙 Kehilla’s POC Shabbat is for People of Color & their Loved Ones, starting at 6pm with services and followed by kosher-style dinner, with Ruthie Levin & Bekkah Scharf. By Lake Merritt. 🎻 Chochmat HaLev in South Berkeley is hosting hybrid (in-person indoors & Zoom) Shabbat services at 7pm. Come early for a potluck at 5.30pm! Register because they hit capacity frequently. Services are meditative, heart-opening, chanting, inspiring music, lighter on the Hebrew. KN95/N95/double surgical mask required. Stay late (or come late!), around 8.45pm for a gathering of HeartSpace, a new group of 30-ish somethings folks to build community. Eva Orbuch is hosting this one!

🌿 Wilderness Torah will be at Urban Adamah for a spirited, song-filled (with instruments, meditative Shabbat service, 6.30-8pm. Masks required. Outdoors in West Berkeley so bring layers! 🌁 Andddd one more option if you want to head to the city for Emanu-El’s classic Late Night Shabbat, exclusively for folks in their 20s & 30s. 8pm schmooze, then a Reform-style service, followed by an oneg (festive food, drinks, and music). This happens every month, and tends to attract big crowds! Register here, masks not required.

January 20

🌉 The Kitchen is hosting its usual “Shabbat PM + Dinner” at 6.15pm at The Friends School in the Mission (v close to BART!). Instrument- & Hebrew-filled services (sweet mix of Sephardi/Mizrahi and Ashkenazi melodies) and a vegetarian dinner afterwards. Indoors, masks optional. Register here for tix that cover dinner.

🎼 Base Bay in Rockridge is collaborating with Niggun Collective again for song-filled singing (full liturgy in Hebrew, transliteration provided, lots of ya-da-dai). Indoors with outdoor options for dinner. Masks & rapid test required beforehand. Live nearby and want to host? 🏡 And after singing at Base, head literally next door to Moishe House Rockridge for a candlelit community Shabbat dinner and food drive (bring cans!). Indoors, masks optional. More details on Facebook and DM for their address.
